Kelsey Barker
Head Instructor
(605) 251-1685
NEW EMAIL: Kelsey.Barker@HorsePowerSF.com
Our new Head Riding Instructor is Ms. Kelsey Barker.  She recently completed her Master’s of Science in Agriculture from Mississippi State University specializing in microbiology and poultry science.  She had   extensive experience as a graduate assistant and undergraduate teaching there. Best of all she was raised in a horse operation and has excellent training skills, and had taught riding lessons to hearing impaired children. Kelsey has a strong work ethic and great rapport with our riders and is a wonderful addition to our staff.  She has stepped in and done a great job during the transition from Katie Shaykett’s tenure to our current staff.  Although we really miss Katie, it is great to know that Handi-Riders is in very capable hands with Ms. Kelsey.  Welcome aboard  Kelsey!

Love and Thanks to a fabulous example for us all,
Katie Shaykett
Former Head Instructor
Part Time Staff

Katie is now officially Former Head Instructor, after the recent birth of her first child, Miss Clara Jayne. She will remain a constant help to HorsePower, and will be teaching lessons again part-time again when Miss Clara Jayne is settled in!

  1. Vivian Ellis

I picked up a “flyer” at The Banquet. This sounds like it might be only for children, but my husband who grew up around horses and even drove teams of work horses in high school, has very little to do since his accident in 1980 which left him partially paralyzed. My goal since marrying him has been to try to give him as full a life as possible, as he has never lived at home since his accident. He is a disabled veteran, but because of his short-term memory problems, it is difficult for him to try to have or learn a job, but he remembers everything that happened before his accident like it was yesterday.

If there is some way he could become involved in your program, we would be extremely grateful. Thank you.

  2. Hi HorsePower! I vote in the Pepsi Refresh contest all the time and try to support equine groups whenever possible. I voted for you in September when Wild Love Preserve was also in the contest. I saw a note on one of the equine groups this month saying that HorsePower likes to support horses in the contest. I have a friend, Laura Leigh, who is a advocate for our wild mustangs who is hoping to be in the contest in December. She’ll be under Wild Horse Education or Laura Leigh if she gets in. She is a brave woman who is doing everything she can to protect and save our wild herds. She could use any support your group could give her! Please check out her facebook page Wild Horse Education or her blog at http://wildhorseeducation.org/blog/
If we make it in, we’d love to have you voting for us. And we will gladly support you if you enter the contest in the again.
    Thanks!

  3. Hi Jolene – I am working on comments on the webpage. I already answered your questions, right? If not I am very sorry and could you let me know asap? SK
